“Nearly New”1976 YAMAHA RD250C
Matching Frame & Engine Numbers

The ‘nearly new’ description is a reference to the work and parts put into refurbishing this 49 year old bike that I imported from Germany as a non-runner. It was a single owner from new and was bought from the widow of the owner by Lupus Classics, from whom I bought the bike in 2023.
The machine was totally dismantled and rebuilt with refurbished, upgraded or new parts to the current specification.
The frame was blasted and powder coated by Macclesfield Powder Coating to give the most durable finish.
The steering head had taper bearings installed and needle rollers were fitted to the swing- arm.
Hagon rear shocks have been fitted but the originals can be provided as well.
Almost all nuts, bolts and washers have been replaced with copper-lubricated A2 stainless items (except where special design or tensile properties are required).
All the chromework items (pipes, silencers, mudguards, headlamp nacelle, carrier, gear and kickstart levers) were polished and re-plated by Agbrigg in Leeds. They also re-chromed the original Japanese wheel rims and polished the hubs. The spokes were replaced with Stainless steel items. Sprockets and chain renewed.
The engine was stripped, crank rebuilt and rebored to +0. 75mm with all new bearings and parts (by Firefox Racing in Keighley) – plus all gear and clutch bearings and springs have been replaced. The crank-case castings were vapour blasted by Ride & Restore. Carburettors were ultrasonically cleaned and all jets, screws and gaskets replaced.
The petrol and oil tanks were ‘de-dinged’ and then sprayed to the correct ‘Brigade Blue’, with logos etc., sprayed on rather than using decals, again by Ride & Restore. The link pipe now has a Stein Connector fitted to facilitate tank removal.
Obviously, all pipes, cables, brakes have been upgraded or replaced. The disks were barely worn so are original.
The seat unit was totally refurbished by PandK Classic bikes.
The wiring loom was cleaned, checked and rewrapped. New HT leads and caps fitted along with new ignition capacitors, neutral switch, indicator relay and battery.
Being a German import, the speedometer and odometer were in Kilometres, so the clocks were replaced with period UK units (not re-zeroed). As was the right-dipping headlamp.
The bike is UK registered as an Historic vehicle and is currently licensed (tax & MOT exempt) and insured for road use.
Since completion the bike has only covered c. 100 miles so still needs to be properly run-in.
The overall cost of the original machine plus completed machine parts and professional work (ignoring personal labour and specialist tools etc.,) is in excess of £10000.
